Carbon neutral

Our commitment to being a carbon neutral company is an investment in our mission statement: maximum effect on your skin, minimum effect on our environment ™ and is a commitment to our brand, our team and our partners and customers.

Trilogy became a certified carbon neutral skincare company in late 2007.

Trilogy became a certified carbon neutral skincare company in late 2007. Since then, Trilogy has continued to work to reduce our carbon emissions and purchased offsets for the carbon we produce in our corporate operations.

This has helped us more closely align our day-to-day business practices with our mission for ethical, environmental and cultural responsibility.

Our performance in this area of environmental sustainability is summarised in the process outlined below undertaken to achieve carbon neutral status for our corporate operations.

We do not claim that any individual products in our range are carbon neutral.

Carbon neutral status for our corporate operations is achieved through the following process:

  • Establishing what operations within the Trilogy organisation are sources of CO2 (this is the only Greenhouse gas that Trilogy emits).
  • Recording data for a year and producing a Carbon Emissions Inventory Report.
  • Verification by an independent source to the ISO Greenhouse Gas Standard and the creation of an Emission Reduction Plan to reduce future emissions.

The purchasing of carbon offsets to mitigate against the carbon emitted during that period.

The Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions for the period 01/06/2007 - 30/05/2008 for Trilogy Natural Products Ltd have been verified by Verification New Zealand Limited in accordance with ISO14064-3:2006 as meeting the requirements of ISO14064-1:2006.

The following operations and travel were assessed by Verification New Zealand:

  • Consumption of gaseous and liquid fuels for space heating.
  • Indirect emissions associated with purchased electricity.
  • Combustion of liquid fuels by vehicles.
  • Indirect emissions for commercial air travel.
  • Indirect emissions for sea and air freight.
  • Trilogy's carbon offset for this period is achieved by the purchase of verified emission reduction credits (VER'S) from the Palmerston North City Council's Awapuni Landfill Gas Project through Carbon Market Solutions. The project captures methane from the landfill at Awapuni located in the city of Palmerston North in New Zealand.

The Awapuni Landfill Gas Project is an approved project under the Projects to Reduce Emissions (PRE) Mechanism of the New Zealand Government.

The VER's purchased by Trilogy in this project were then retired (units must be retired to offset emissions) and can be viewed at www.tz1market.com

Trilogy is currently measuring offsets for the 12 months ended 31 May 2009 and Verification NZ is about to undertake the audit process for this period.
